Our Newest Program

Meals on Wheels
for Hungry Paws

Many seniors count on their pets for companionship, especially those who live alone. With many seniors living at or below the poverty line, some struggle with the cost of pet ownership and will share meals with their pets or feed them before eating themselves. Often seniors and pets will be malnourished and underweight.

Meals on Wheels program through Tri-County Community Action Agency provides homebound seniors with nutritious meals and dedicated volunteers that offer check-ins and companionship.

The Humane Society of Oldham County is proud to be partnering with Tri-County and their Meals on Wheels program in Oldham County to offer pet food and assistance through volunteers as well. Working together will allow us to share vital resources, to combat social isolation among our homebound seniors, and ensure that they and their pets have what they need to age in place together.

SOME BENEFITS OF PET OWNERSHIP TO SENIORS
  • Pets provide structure and routine which can help seniors avoid unhealthy behavior, like not wanting to get out of bed.
  • Pets can reduce stress levels in people of any age. Interacton with animals counteracts stress by lowering heart rate, stress hormones, anxiety and fear levels.
  • Owning a pet can help keep seniors more active and increase physical health.
  • Dogs (and some cats) can provide a certain level of security for seniors by helping alert them when something is out of the ordinary.

Dogepalooza - Different for a Reason.
HSOC is a part of this new phenomenon as a Charity of Choice

The founder, team, sponsors, vendors, and committed friends of Dogepalooza believe in the
DOGE motto of Do Only Good Everyday.
Each festival location will designate local and national charities to benefit from
Dogepalooza in a financially substantial way, no strings attached.
No corporate administrative structure to drain the resources,
enabling us to give back more to the community.
The first Dogepalooza will held in Sugarland, Texas on April 23rd with an amazing line up including Dionne Warwick!
