Adopt Don't Shop!!!

The HSOC Dog Team was met with a challenge on Aug. 4 when what was originally supposed to be a transport of a mom dog and one pup turned into a mom and six 4 1/2-month-old pups.  The six pups, weighing in at around 15 pounds apiece, were all piled into one wire crate on top of each other!
They were terrified and had vomit, poop and pee all over.
The team got word and jumped into action right as the heavens opened up with a downpour when the dogs arrived.

The mother's coat was matted with a horrifying stench and had to be shaved. These dogs came from a breeder, with obvious disregard for the wellbeing of the pups and the mom, but they were lucky to be free of their uncaring owners, unlike countless other moms and pups that are nothing but a commodity to breeders of that nature.
The team was on a mission and in record time the pups were bathed, weights recorded and color-coded with collars and vaccinations done!
Mom is super sweet and about 8 years old. The pups are medium chocolate Labradoodles and applications are being accepted now and can be found on our Adopt page here.

Please share this all too common story with anyone who might be thinking about shopping around for a dog which just perpetuates breeding. Not all breeders are bad, but it is a fact that in the United States, almost 400,000 dogs are euthanized in the United States and 9 out of 10 animals that are euthanized are adoptable. The Humane Society of Oldham County is a No-Kill Rescue.

Kittens Kittens Kittens!

Everywhere we turn, there are kittens! We are doing our best to keep up and thanks to our wonderful cat fosters and many adopters we may make it through this season. Some kittens that come to us aren't in the best of shape after starting their life outdoors. These are before and after pictures of 2 kittens that are recovering in our care.  One had an upper respiratory infection and the other had a bot fly in it's forehead. Yuck! If you would like to help by taking care of adorable kittens as a kitten foster, please fill out our foster application and return. We need more foster families! Foster Volunteer Application (humanesocietyoldhamcounty.com)
