A Helping Hand from Hermitage Farm Easter Egg Hunt Saturday April 16thJoin us for Hermitage Farm’s annual Easter Egg Hunt! Saturday April 16th we will be hosting a number of egg hunts for kids of all ages, while families can enjoy a selection of box lunches and pastries. With springtime cocktails available from our mobile bar, an exclusive Hermitage pop-up shop, and a surprise visit from the Easter Bunny, this is the perfect Easter event for the whole family. Tickets for the egg hunts are $10 per child, and all proceeds will be donated to the Humane Society of Oldham County– there will even be a few cute friends available for adoption! Spots are by registration only, so hop on over to the Hermitage Farm website to sign up now! Many seniors count on their pets for companionship, especially those who live alone. With many seniors living at or below the poverty line, some struggle with the cost of pet ownership and will share meals with their pets or feed them before eating themselves. Often seniors and pets will be malnourished and underweight. Meals on Wheels program through Tri-County Community Action Agency provides homebound seniors with nutritious meals and dedicated volunteers that offer check-ins and companionship. The Humane Society of Oldham County is proud to be partnering with Tri-County and their Meals on Wheels program in Oldham County to offer pet food and assistance through volunteers as well. Working together will allow us to share vital resources, to combat social isolation among our homebound seniors, and ensure that they and their pets have what they need to age in place together.

Help us win $100,000!Your donation through MightyCause could help us win $100,000! Click HERE, or the button below if you would like to help us become eligible for a $100,000 grant. If we can raise $3,000 through MightyCause by August 13th, we will be eligible for several grants ranging from $2,500 all the way up to $100,000! There are also several "bonus challenges" along the way that we can win more money by completing. BONUS CHALLENGE #3 is happening NOW until August 9th! If we are one of the top three charities with the most unique donors we can win an extra $4,000! Every unique donor that gives to our campaign this week increases our chances! We only need 54(as of this newsletter) people by August 9th to donate $5 to be able to win the $4,000! All money donated will go towards our new building as well as animal care. We're so close to moving into our building, but there is still a big chunk of money we need to raise. The biggest expense left is close to $100,000 for fencing. Our facility is seven acres, which requires a lot of fence! We also have several cats with heart problems that require expensive cardiac workups, and a couple of animals that need dentals. We're only $1,284 away from $3,000! Can you help us get a step closer? Any amount helps! |

Protect yourself and your pets from pesticides!
Please consider posting information about this important provision under Kentucky State Law on your social media and get the word out as a public service to residents and their pets concerned about involuntarily being exposed to chemicals and spray drift while in their yards when neighbors in proximity have their yards sprayed. Kentucky is among many states that have a neighbor notification provision under “Laws and Regulations for Turf and Ornamentals” to help protect residents and their pets by offering a head’s up before an adjoining neighbor treats their yard using spray application. Residents who wish to be notified before a neighbor sprays can make the request in writing and include their name, address and date, and provide it to adjoining neighbors. It is then up to the resident who had their yard sprayed to ensure the service provides those requesting it ample notification before performing the treatment on that property. An area resident said: "Myself and my four dogs were caught in the noxious spray drift from a neighbor’s treatment last Thursday morning that made me choke and left residual taste in my mouth. On an otherwise beautiful morning, a rarity lately, we were forced to retreat indoors for the next several hours and I couldn’t open my doors without being overwhelmed by the smell, which lingered in the air into the next day. My dogs often carry residual smell on their coats if they’re near our fence after a neighbor behind me has a treatment to their property." You have the right to speak up and protect yourself from chemical residual and noxious fumes that result from this practice. |

We need fosters!
Kitten season is in full swing, and we are in desperate need of foster homes. As always this time of the year, it's an explosion of cat babies. Lots and lots of them. And lots of people who find themselves unable to care for them turn to us. It doesn't take long for us to run out of room at our facility.
We are also helping with an awful hoarding situation of cats and kittens, and need fosters to help get these cats to safety. The owner moved from their home and left a large group of cats in the house with little food or water. By the time someone was able to get into the house, many of the cats were dead. The remaining cats were evicted outside by authorities and are emaciated and in need of TLC and medical care to become healthy and adoptable.
HSOC will take care of all supplies, vetting, and medicines(if needed).
If you're interested in helping out in either situation, visit our website and fill out the foster application, which you can find here.
If you have questions or would like more information, email or call us.

A happy adoption story
My husband Tom and I (Mary) decided we needed a cat closer to our kitten Autumns age and energy level, to befriend her as our two older cats weren’t enjoying her antics. We went to the Lucky Cat Cafe and that’s where we met Buddy. An 11 year old long-haired cat who would walk through the cafe talking to anyone who would notice, getting verbal hello’s to multiple loves and pettings in return. Buddy was kicked outside and abandoned by his owner. So many pets through no fault of their own are abandoned, mistreated, and some have had owners who have died. Adoption is a win-win situation for the pet and the new owners. Pets want the same thing we do- a home, family, routine and lots of love. As we all meld together as a family unit you see such appreciation paid with lots of kisses, purrs, wanting to sit by you or on you, it warms your heart and soul. We also met a short haired black cat named Johnson (now Shadow) who we knew would be perfect for Autumn, so we left with 2 cats to join the Nolan family.
As with all new pets, we have them checked out by our vet. It turns out that Buddy has an irregular heart beat which we were fortunate enough to learn so we could medicate him. His appetite and energy level has moderately increased. We are grateful to the Humane Society of Oldham County for saving Buddy and Shadow and giving us the opportunity to adopt them. Autumn is extremely happy with her play mate, Shadow preens her, cuddles and they play together. Buddy loves lap time and will go back and forth between Tom and I, I believe he's giving us points, LOL. Please consider senior cats when you adopt they deserve a loving family in their golden years and you will definitely be rewarded.

Building Update!
- The builder is done with his part of the project. A huge shout out to Jim Rollins with Walters Buildings which is headquartered in Allenton, Wisconsin. Jim and his team not only did a fantastic job, but were also incredibly good to us. Without Jim's foresight, the crazy rise in construction materials would have stalled our build for sure. HSOC definitely gives Jim a 5 star recommendation!!
- Grading on the property still needs to be done followed by landscape work. Inside projects like shelving, installing crates, etc. have started. Our move in date is not yet set - that in itself will be a big project.
