Important Update on the Camp K-9 Training Program

It is with heartfelt sadness that we share the news that our Camp K-9 training program at the Kentucky State Reformatory has come to an end. Due to the planned future closure of the prison, prison officials have made the decision to discontinue the dog training program.
Over the past 10 years, this partnership has made a tremendous impact. Inmate handlers provided vital socialization, manners, and obedience training to hundreds of HSOC’s rescued dogs, preparing them for successful adoption into loving homes. The program not only changed the lives of the dogs, but it also had a meaningful and positive effect on the inmates involved and the families who adopted the dogs.
Following the program’s closure, all of the dogs have been safely relocated to our facility, where they continue to receive care and love while awaiting adoption. We’re happy to report that adoptions are continuing at a steady pace. As always, HSOC’s commitment to each dog remains unwavering ~ we will not stop working until every dog finds their forever home.
However, due to limited space and resources, we are currently only able to take in new dogs if foster homes are available. Once we’ve placed the current dogs into adoptive homes, we plan to gradually resume intake and continue our mission to rescue and rehome dogs in need.
We are deeply grateful for the support of our community throughout the years and for the incredible legacy of Camp K-9. Thank you for standing with us and the animals we serve.
