Get Involved
Join the HSOC Volunteer Family
Volunteers are the heart of our lifesaving mission. Every year, hundreds of animal lovers in our community give their time and talents, making a real difference in the lives of animals and discovering the joy and fulfillment that comes with giving back.
When you join our volunteer family, you’ll get all the training and support you need, plus a warm welcome from our friendly staff. And the animals you help? They’ll show you unconditional love every step of the way.

Consider What Kind of Volunteer You Are
Choosing the right type helps us match you with opportunities that fit your schedule, interests, and goals.
Before filling out your application, think about which volunteer type fits you best:
- Adult Volunteer – Commit 2+ hours regularly to one of our volunteer opportunities.
- Youth Volunteer – Teens ages 14–18 looking to commit 2+ hours regularly to one of our volunteer opportunities.
- Students & Community Service – Students and community members hoping to earn service hours while helping animals.
Age Requirements & Opportunities
- Minimum Age: 14 years old for entry-level opportunities such as Events and Fundraising.
- Youth Volunteers: Teens under 18 may join our Events & Fundraising anytime and our Cat Care Team when space is available.
- Adult Volunteers (18+): May participate in Dog & Cat Care Teams, Clinics, Fostering, Admin & Office Assistance and of course Events & Fundraising.
Because animal care spots are limited and in high demand, we encourage all volunteers to start with Events, Fundraising, Admin & Office or Clinics. This is a wonderful way to meet the animals, get to know our staff, and become part of the HSOC family. As animal care positions open, priority is always given to existing volunteers—so starting with Events & Fundraising is a perfect first step.
Are you part of a corporation or organization looking for a group volunteer opportunity?
We love partnering with community groups and are happy to explore projects that support the Humane Society of Oldham County. If you’re interested, please email us at hello@oldhamhumane.com to learn more.
Just Want to Snuggle and Socialize?
If you’d love to spend time with our animals, stop by during business hours (Mon, Wed, Fri, 12–4). You can sign a waiver and snuggle away in one of our cat rooms—lots of purrs guaranteed!
Unfortunately, because many of our dogs have unknown histories, we cannot offer drop-in socializing with them. Don’t worry—our dedicated staff and care team make sure every dog gets plenty of love and attention.
